What is the best way to clean a berber carpet?

We have a berber carpet in our condo and it is getting rather unattractive from all of the traffic in and out of the house. The carpet cleaning machine I have doesn’t even touch the surface of this carpet. How can I get this rug bright and white again?

I have berber carpet and what I’ve found is that if I keep on top of cleaning it, the traffic areas stay a bit cleaner. I’ve had professionals in to clean it but have gotten the best results using my Bissell steam cleaner twice a year and wearing slippers instead of shoes in the house. But enough about my carpets. . .
When the dirt gets really ground in, there isn’t much you’re going to be able to do to get it bright and white again. I’ve tried Oxy type cleaners made for my steam cleaner and they do get it a bit whiter. You might have to repeat a week or so later so you don’t over saturate your carpets. Hope this helps.
